Shivers Event Team News

The road to HOYS

Posted on 12th September 2011

It is now time to concentrate on Express Eventing at HOYS.  It really is funny seeing our Welsh Section D doing Event Pony at Burghley and our event horses going to HOYS.  Last years winner Flora Harris is a friend of Wills and had an automatic qualification to the final however she didn't have a horse so we have offered her Buster (Shiver St George).  We have already had one get together at Ian Woodheads slightly changing the floorplan for Will and sorting a new one out for Flora.  She is a lovely rider and we just hope he behaves himself for her, although the canter pirouettes are very exciting for him!  We have decided to change Will's horse to Manor as he is much more capeable of doing the extra movements to get a better dressage to music mark and we just hope he stays as straight as clive on the xc.  It's really exciting seeing Will perform his test again and the whole team are getting geared up for 3 days away. Follow news about Express eventing on the link below.

Successful Blair for the team

Posted on 12th September 2011

We set off for Blair on quite a road trip.  It involved taking 3 of the team horses Flyer (CCI3*) Clive (CCI3*) and Manor (CIC3*) and also our client Emma Hawksby with her 2* horse Brannas.  Having so many horses, people and babies there was a need for a caravan and trailer to follow, as you can imagine there was an impressive camp when we were set up.

It was amazing to see such good going considering the rain that they had had on the run up to the event and it was such a shame that it rained once again on Thursday and turned rather wet and deep.  After containing 3 very excited horses in the dressage it was time for xc, we decided not to run Clive xc as we were unsure if he would like the hill, mud and distance all at the same time.  Flyer and Manor have both had successful trips to Blair in the 2* in the past so we decided to run them.  They were both stars and recorded clears when many others didn't even complete, Manor was slightly miffed when he was pulled off his lines to go on long routes to ensure that all important clear.  Will did a fantastic job taking flyer round his first CCI3* ending up 14th, something I never expected when I bought him, and in the process qualified him for Burghley next year.  Manor's clear gave him his qualification for Bramham next year so we will have 2 4* horses, 2 3* star horses and 1 2* horse for next season when I'm back on board.

It's now time to concentrate on the younsters and several clients and their horses with some BE100 runs.  Will has also been competing Jamie Atkinson's younger horses while he has been out injured and still has a few more runs on them at the end of the season.  Danielle has also had great fun eventing Buster but due to the rain causing event cancellations she has not managed to get her qualification to do an intermediate before the end of this season so she will finish off the season with a BE100 open.

We have also had a few changes to team horses with the sale of Dee (Wooleypark Destiny) to Frankie who has had her all season on loan, she couldn't resist her in the end so we wish her lots of luck in the future.  We have replaced Dee with Buddy (Riverstown Tomboy)  who is due to do his first few events this autumn, he has a lovely temperament and I don't think we have ever had such a laid back Irish horse!  Mum has also been investing her pennies in 2 lovely Kings Composer foals she couldn't decide which one to have so she took both a filly and a gelding.

2011 season finally under way

Posted on 22nd March 2011

After what seems a very long winter the 2011 eventing season is finally underway.   The team have already been out and about with a trip to Oasby producing double clears and a rosette for Flyer.  At Lincoln there was definately a spring in their steps and Will had some interesting moments but there were no big disasters and once again Flyer brought home a rosette.  There is now a shift up the levels at Belton and Burnham Market so we will see how the boys and girls behave and hope for more placings, prize money and qualifications.

First clinic of the season report

Posted on 6th March 2011

On thursday 3rd of March we held a clinic at Heather Vaulkhards fabulous yard,Netherton Park at Stannington.  There were a wide range of riders having lessons some having already evented and some just wanting to improve their own riding.  It was a great day and there were some tired but happy riders and horses at the end.  We had 2 great photographers there all day and they really captured the day.  Here are some pictures captured by Julie Holliday.
